Yeesh Ok, so I slacked and didn't reserve a room early for this year, last year. After calling on a daily basis, the Hilton finally has a room available....at $324 a night. For five nights the bill comes to $1,850 or so. This isn't a huge suite or anything like that. Just a standard room. So, anyone have an extra room at a reasonable rate? Stuff for sale! (and booklet question) Hello all! This is my first time posting here, but this will be my fifth DragonCon. I was posting to let you all know I have some stuff up for sale on eBay that some of you might be interested in. I am trying not only to get some extra money for fabric for new costumes, but I am also moving in October and trying to eliminate some of the stuff I have. Auctions include costume jewelry, some Luna Lovegood accessories (radish earrings, cork necklace, lion hat), an Orc helmet from LOTR, some LOTR action figures, fabric remnants, and some other random stuff. Cthulu LARP at Dragon*Con 2008 Echoes of Devil's Reef: A Live Action Roleplaying Event of Lovecraftian Horror
Sponsored by Weird Tales MagazineEchoes of Devil's Reef, is the final Lurking Fear Productions Lovecraftian horror LARP event and will take place at Dragon*Con 2008. Initially set in the late Victorian era of 1896, players are passengers aboard the luxury steam liner, the HMS Prometheus, on a trip beginning in Liverpool, continuing to Lisbon, and finally docking in Athens. Game play takes place on the last leg of the journey between Lisbon and Athens in the Mediterranean Sea. Players may portray a wide variety of pre-generated characters; everything from upper-class leisure travelers to poor deck hands, and those characters come equipped with backgrounds and relationships to other characters and NPCs. Players may also create their own, unique characters for this event and LFP staff will work closely with these players to help tailor their character to the game. As this is our final event, our 'grand farewell' if you will, Echoes of Devil's Reef is a little different from previous LFP games. Aside from pre-generated Victorian era characters, players may also portray any character who has already appeared in a prior LFP game, regardless of that particular character's historical era or fate. Consumed by a nightgaunt in Horror at Meadow Hill Manor? You may still play your character from that game. Transformed into a Deep One in The Song of the Abyss? You can play that character too. Trapped in the Dreamlands in Gods of Forbidden Light? Well, you get the picture.... Combining an original salon-style rules system, a cohesive, completely immersive setting, and a distinctive attention to detail, Lurking Fear Productions staff aims to create a unique experience for all players. Cost to play is $15 per person and pre-registration is strongly encouraged as we are capping available player slots at 45. We sold out of available player slots on Friday night of the convention last year, so registering as soon as possible is highly recommended! Characters are always dispensed on a first come, first served basis, so make sure you either pre-register via the website or get to the LFP booth early in the convention. The game will run Saturday of the convention from noon until 6:00 PM. Registered players are asked to meet at the Lurking Fear Productions booth at noon prior to going in-play. As Echoes of Devil's Reef is being sponsored by Weird Tales Magazine, every registered player will receive a free copy of Weird Tales and a coupon for a reduced subscription price. Weird Tales will also be providing a handful of unique prizes for players who exhibit exceptional roleplaying. Anime/Manga Track Info? Hello everyone :-) I received my progress report in the mail last week (and digested it fully, it was delicious) and I can't help but begin to wonder for any news regarding the Anime/Manga track for this year. An unrelated question to the main one I'm about to ask, but I noticed that in the progress report that Anime/Manga is now an official track of its own. I'm a bit confused, as I had thought it was already its own official track before? At least that was the impression I had last year. Perhaps this announcement means, maybe, the track will have a larger space this year? I was curious. My main question is simply if there has been any announcements I've missed regarding what is going to be available for Anime/Manga this year. It was noted in the report that the cosplay contest will be back, which is a yay. But are there any confirmed guests for the industry so far? Scanning over the list I don't recognize anyone, if any. Last year had Vic Mignogna and a few other big names. He stated at Megacon this year that he will most likely not be attending again this year due to schedule conflicts. Or at least that's what I was told. Any ideas when we can expect some news? Thanks! I am writing on behalf of the Director of the Anime Track, Jonathan Tarbox, who will be taking over the section this year and will be needing dependable, professional staff to help execute various events this year at Dragon Con. He is new to this area and could use a bit of help in the coming weeks before the convention. Many plans are in place, but he will need good people throughout the con for those plans. If you are a Japanese animation fan, that is good because you will likely be enthusiastic about the panels / appearances / events taking place, but that is not as much of a requirement as is being someone who is willing deal with crowds, answer attendees' questions and just plain work hard during your shift. Let's Ask DCTV! Hey, look at that, it's time for me to make my job as DragonCon TV bumper wrangler easier by having you write content for us. That's right, it's time to ask DCTV! DCTV in part creates videos to entertain you at the convention before panels and big events like the Masquerade, as well as while you're standing in line hating life. I'm in charge of bumpers, which in this case are short text-only clips. If you've seen Adult Swim, you've seen bumpers. While we write many of them ourselves, we also have fun answering your questions. In the past we've answered Now's your chance to see your name in lights at the convention. Here's what you do. Step 1: cut a hole in the box. Wait, that's the wrong list. Aha: Step 1: think of a question. Step 2: ask your question in a reply to this post. Step 3: go to the con and see if your question shows up, or wait until after the con when I post a thank-you to everyone whose question we used. I'll credit you with your LJ user handle, but you can sign your question with a different name that you want me to use. If you choose a really long name, though, I'll probably shorten it and/or make fun of it. Some general advice: You can post more than one question, though I'll likely only use one of them (if any). Take a minute to look through previous questions if you want to make sure you don't ask a question someone else already has asked. There are some questions that are totally played out: we've copped to stealing the bumper idea from Adult Swim two or three times, and there have been plenty of questions making fun of con funk or how gamers smell.
